Years 5 & 6
Years 5 & 6
Years 5 and 6 children are now expected to learn Hebrew twice a week, and we run classes for them on Wednesday afternoons as well as Sunday mornings. If they cannot make the Wednesday lesson, there is an option of getting a booklet via email from the teacher, completing it at home, and bringing it in for review on Sundays.
As the core of our Hebrew program, Volumes One and Two of the workbooks are to be completed. Once this is completed, there are two supplementary resources for the students; “A Time to Sing” and “A Time to Pray“. These are based on the vocabulary from “A Time to Read”.
The most crucial outcome for Years 5 and 6 is that we have cemented the relationship between reading and language. After all, reading is fundamentally a language skill. This intensifies as students start looking forward to their b'nei mitzvah.
We also introduce Jewish History and Holocaust study in the Years 5 and 6 Jewish Studies program. We have in-service programs, as well as a visit to the Sydney Jewish Museum.
The children are also encouraged to lead the festival celebrations for the younger years, i.e being the leaders of the Meah Seder on Pesach.
