JSA Webinar ‘Smuggled – An Illegal History of Journeys to Australia”

5:00 PM - 6:30 PMA webinar with speakers Ruth Balint and Carina Hoang. Ruth Balint is co-author of Smuggled – An Illegal History of Journeys to Australia, which traces the fascinating story of people smuggling in Australia’s migrant history, from the Second World War through to the present.
Ruth has a keen interest in Australian migration history and holds an ARC Discovery grant with Professor Sheila Fitzpatrick from the University of Sydney and Dr Jayne Persian at the University of Southern Queensland, on the subject of Russian and Russian-speaking Jewish Displaced Persons arriving in Australia via the ‘China’ Route in the Wake of the Second World War.
Carina Hoang, PhD Former refugee. Special Representative of Australia for UNHCR. Historian. Her journey is included in Smuggled: An Illegal History of Journeys to Australia.
This topic is both relevant to and of interest to NSTE members, many of whom have a migrant history. The event will be a webinar.
