Boomers Film Group - The Belier Family
Sunday, 18 October, 2020 • 30 Tishrei 5781
5:30 PM - 6:30 PMThe Belier Family is available free for viewing on SBS on Demand before our Zoom discussion.
Click here to watch the movie.
The film is a French sub-titled comedy/drama released in 2015. It has won 8 European awards.
Rabbi Nicole Roberts will moderate our Zoom meeting.
A snapshot of the film: The Béliers are ordinary people: Rodolphe and Gigi have two children and run their farm in rural France for a living. Ordinary people? Well, almost ... Mum, dad and their son Quentin are deaf and totally rely on their hearing daughter Paula to speak on the family's behalf. The complication arises when Paula's gifted voice is recognised by her music teacher to audition for a scholarship for a place at a prestigious music school.
We are privileged to have Sue Morgan OAM join the Zoom discussion. Her response to the film is informed by her personal contact with members of the deaf community and her study of Auslan.
This promises to be a most interesting and thought provoking Boomers Zoomer's film group event – so, please click below to register, and a link for the meeting will be sent to you.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our synagogue stands, the land of the Gamaragal people. Many of us and our forebears have come from other lands and found our spirit of kinship with Indigenous Australians whose connection with this land preceded ours, and we recognise that connection as sacred and enduring. May we walk together toward a future of justice and healing.
