Benny Kaplinski has been
involved in synagogue music for more than four decades when, as a child of
seven, he joined the choir of the late Cantor Kusevitzky (of the
world-renowned Kusevitzky cantorial family) in Capetown. Benny is
passionate about liturgical music which he sees as Jewish ‘soul music’.
His involvement in NSTE as cantorial soloist commenced in the early 90s
when Rabbi Robuck asked him to take over the cantorial reins shortly
before he returned to the USA. Since then, Benny has taught scores of Bar
and Bat Mitzvah students.
Married with two school age children (Daniel and Amy), Benny’s ‘day job’
is Senior History Master at Girraween Selective High School and is a
Modern History examiner for the NSW Board of Studies. Benny can be
contacted on karbendan@bigpond.com.
