Who are we?

Getting involved

We provide a home for all who seek to draw near to God. We encourage the active participation of our members in all aspects of synagogue life through the performance on Mitzvot (Jewish responsibility), Tzedakah (charity/social justice) and tikkun Olam (repairing the world).

Involvement in services

Religious services.

As part of our effort to involve our members in all aspects of the community, we offer opportunities to participate in services, with honours such as Ark opener /closer, Aliyot laTorah (Torah call-ups), reading the Prayers for the Congregation and Israel, lighting Shabbat candles etc. It is customary, though not obligatory, to make a donation in appreciation of the honour.

Volunteers

Volunteers are vital to the running of our shul. Everyone’s help is needed. The involvement of as many members of the congregation as possible ensures success. The needs are varied and include serving on one of the many committees which organise many of the events which take place at NSTE, helping at events, offering to help with general office duties, assisting with security during the High Holy Days, supervising the kitchen, baking for kiddushim with the Kosher Kitchen Krew (K3), gardening, painting and helping with minor repairs, assisting in the Library, helping out during school excursions or giving an hour or two prior to High Holy Days when we spring clean our facilities from top to bottom, inside and out.
