Religious Services / Tefilah

services

The Kabbalat Shabbat service begins each Friday night at 6.30pm.
A tasty soup in winter and seasonal fruit in summer is available between 6.00pm and the beginning of the service. This emphasises the importance we give to extending a warm greeting to every member and guest and to creating a truly Heimishe congregation.

Sasson-v’simcha Family Services, designed for families with children aged 6-12, are held each term. Those children whose birthdays fall in this period receive special Birthday Blessings followed by a birthday cake and, for some services, a Shabbat dinner. Click here for more details.

Shabbat and Festival morning services begin promptly at 10.00am and are followed by a kiddush.

Tallitot (prayer shawls) siddurim (prayer books), chumashim (Hebrew Bibles) and kippot (head coverings) are all available in the synagogue’s foyer. Families are welcome, men and women sit together and there is a children’s corner with toys and books for very young children.

High Holy Days Services

The NSTE takes special pride in the beauty of its religious service on the Yamim Noraim (Days of Awe). Guests are welcome to join the congregation but must contact the office to obtain entry cards and to receive details about times of service.

Mishkan T'filah - A New Direction   mishkan-image

Introduction by Rabbi Robuck

No more than once in a generation does it happen that the Progressive movement creates a liturgical snapshot for its worshippers. We are fortunate indeed to be able to enjoy the fruits of this latest and most ambitious effort.

Mishkan T’filah was created on the main in North America by the CCAR Press, The Central Conference of Reform Rabbis and the Union for Reform Judaism. Extensive input was received from Jewish professionals; rabbis and scholars and lay people alike. The Mishkan T’filah was “field tested” in many congregations. Many revisions followed until it was at last published in 2007.

Youth Services

A group of teens in the community run this Friday evening Shabbat service. These services are only for our youth. They take place in the Netzer youth room above the Kindy.

The service is creative, musical and contemporary. We have teenage guitar players, song leaders, bongo players and service leaders that have designed the service to be fun and engaging.

Services take place approximately once every two months, and all primary and high school students are welcome to take part. The Service starts at 6.30pm, and finishes at approximately 7.30pm (when we join the main congregation for the Kiddush (wine and challah).
