Social/Chevrah/Outreach

We accept our obligation to reach out to Jews who do not currently participate in Jewish religious life and offer all who desire it the means to reawaken their interest and involvement.

A bird’s eye view of what we do for our young families

Shabbat Tot is our Shabbat experience for young children (aged 2-6) and their families. Four times each year from 4.00pm – 5.00pm we offer a special sing-a-long service designed for pre-schoolers, followed by a craft, game, dance, or some other fun activity. Our goal is to help share with our children the joy of Shabbat and the other festivals of the Jewish year. Each Shabbat Tot, we reunite with old friends and welcome new faces into our Shabbat Tot family. We encourage you to try out or continue participating in Shabbat Tot. Feel free to bring a friend or two.

A bird’s eye view of what we do for our Young Adults

Shore Thing is a group for adults in their 20s and 30s which aims to create a stronger sense of community through monthly activities ranging from purely social to educationally stimulating.

Shore Thing has a flair for hosting events that are easy to enjoy and hard to refuse. Past highlights include a wine-tasting trip to the Hunter Valley, a Pre-Pesach cooking class, weekend retreats, panel discussions and guest speakers.

Every second month the group holds a Shabbos Shmooze. This is an informal Shabbat dinner at which everyone contributes a vegetarian dish or dessert. Different members offer their homes for the evening. It is an excellent opportunity to celebrate Shabbat with other young like minded people in your community.

Members and non-members are both very welcome to take part in our events.

All events are planned and run by a voluntary committee under the guidance of our Young Adult Director, Janet Granek, which meets at Synagogue Night Out on the fourth Monday of each month. Events are designed to meet the needs of the young adult community and we are always open to new ideas and suggestions.

For more information or to be added to our e-mail list which receives regular updates please contact janet@nste.org.au or call 94197011

NETWORK – the umbrella organization that keeps Jewish young adults connected has a very informative website, listing many other organizations and events.
