Mitzvoth (Commandments) (For students and their families entering Year 7)
The b’mitzvah year
(Year 7) brings together much of the knowledge acquired in previous years as students undertake a "Bird’s Eye View of Jewish History and Jewish Thought" utilising tailor-made materials. They are assisted, through a series of parent-child workshops, to enhance their
Jewish IQ (involvement quotient) and to prepare their Torah reading and
D’var Torah. Two assessments, one on Jewish knowledge and the other on Jewish history, are administered during the year. Particular educational emphasis is placed on the basic Jewish concept of
mitzvah. An especially intensive and pivotal year, students and their educational support team are expected to be in regular attendance at synagogue services, at Tanach study classes (immediately prior) and to serve as
Junior shammashim, greeters for our worshippers. All
Year 7 students are required to join with their peers from throughout Sydney at the
Mitzvah of Memory program offered through the Jewish Board of Deputies on the evening of Yom Hashoah , Holocaust Remembrance Day.
