Pocket Prayers These Pocket Prayers, available from the foyer, were composed by
congregational psalmist, Donna Sife to offer comfort, hope and inspiration
for people to use in their everyday lives and who wish to elevate their
experience so it becomes sacred in itself and is seen as part of the
Divine Drama that is our lives. There are prayers for becoming a member of
a community; on receiving a diagnosis; on losing a loved one; for the end
of a relationship; birth of a child; adoption of a child; child beginning
or changing school; miscarriage; for parents with children leaving home or
travelling abroad; before surgery; after surgery; upon losing a job;
change of seasons; on taking an examination; on moving house; for
depression; for forgiveness; for endings and beginnings; for wisdom and
clarity; for courage. These conveniently sized prayers can be carried
around in a pocket, given when visiting with a friend or family member in
hospital, placed on the refrigerator door or on a bedside table. Placing
them in the foyer for our members to pick up whenever they require shows
that we care! Design and photography by Alan Taylor.

by Rabbi Richard Lampert,
Rabbi Emeritus

knowledge. Initially intended for Bar/Bat Mitzvah students it was later

basic outline of the religious literature of Judaism and a guide to Jewish
philosophy. It also provides an introduction to the Jewish calendar and
festivals. Also covered is the Jewish life-cycle from Brit through
B’mitzvah, to marriage, divorce, death and mourning customs.
A Bird’s Eye Look at Jewish History
by Rabbi Richard Lampert, Rabbi
Emeritus
This little book outlines (in not too much detail) the first 4000 years of
Jewish history from the story of Abraham, the first Hebrew, and salient
points of Jewish history until virtually the present day. The booklet also
contains some of Rabbi Lampert’s inimitable gimmicks to help the reader
memorise certain essential facts and features the famous ‘Franklin’ Square
– developed by Rabbi Stephen Franklin and updated by Rabbi Lampert which
assists the reader/student to fit the highlights of Jewish history into a
square of which each side represents 1000 years.

and Ballet Orchestra, Australian and American vocal soloists and the
community choirs of the Temple Emanuel and North Shore Temple Emanuel. The

through the use of diverse musical genres, from plainchant to classical
artsong to jazz. It includes a dramatic narration written by Donna Jacobs

heart of the work are twelve Psalm settings symbolising the original
twelve tribes of Israel, unified by David.
