Kashrut Policy

Valerie Jaye Function Centre
In January 2004 the kitchen was kashered and declared kosher for dairy and fish.

a) All functions to meet NSTE kashrut standards as set out below.

b) Foods prepared in private homes not permitted.

c) Sealed, packaged products are permitted when bearing recognisable certification or if approved by the most up-to-date NSW Kashrut Authority List (available from the Temple office or Kashrut Authority website).

d) Ingredients for food to be prepared in the kitchen to be purchased as c) above, or discussed with the rabbis.

e) Rabbinic supervision required when food is to be prepared on the premises.

f) Only caterers associated with the NSW Kashrut Authority, caterers who enjoy supervision under the rabbis and congregational volunteers may use the kitchen facility. (A list of “preferred” and “approved” caterers is available in the Temple office.)

NSTE Sponsored Functions in Other Venues
Kashrut standards are to be observed as above, but with the option to prepare meat at appropriate venues.

Other functions

a) NSTE functions in private homes: advice to be offered to ensure appropriate food will be served.

b) NSTE functions in restaurant: Organiser of function to ensure that vegetarian food is available.

c) NSTE picnics when people bring their own food: Vegetarian food only to be accepted.
